NV Energy electricity customers seeing small dip in rates

CARSON CITY — Southern Nevada residential, commercial and industrial customers of NV Energy will see their rates go down starting Thursday, with an overall decrease of 2.19 percent due in part to lower fuel costs.

It is the second consecutive quarter of rate decreases for customers of NV Energy, which operates as Nevada Power Co. in Southern Nevada.

The reduction in electricity rates is due to the company’s management of costs associated with fuel and purchased power used to provide electricity. These costs are passed through directly to customers, dollar for dollar, with no profit to the company.

A typical Southern Nevada single-family residential customer bill of $149.71, based on average use of 1,141 kilowatt-hours a month, will see a decrease of approximately 1 percent, or $1.35, starting Thursday.

When added to the decrease of 3.13 percent experienced on July 1, a typical Southern Nevada single-family residential customer monthly bill has been reduced $6.18 since the beginning of the year.

Additionally, NV Energy settled its 2014 General Rate Case, required by law to be submitted every three years, resulting in no increase in revenue for the company and the smallest impact a general rate filing has had on Southern Nevada customers in more than a decade.

“This has been a year of good news for our customers,” said NV Energy President and CEO Paul Caudill. “The company’s previous investments in efficient, reliable power plants, as well as the significant reductions we’ve made in our operating costs are providing benefits to customers through lower prices.”

NV Energy Inc. provides a wide range of energy services to 1.3 million customers throughout Nevada and nearly 40 million tourists annually. NV Energy is a holding company whose principal subsidiaries, Nevada Power Co. and Sierra Pacific Power Co., are doing business as NV Energy. The company is headquartered in Las Vegas.
