NV Energy donates to UNR’s renewable-energy program

Local power utility NV Energy has donated $250,000 to the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Engineering.

The college will use $200,000 to create a new faculty position for researching renewable energy and developing new applications for the power grid, which delivers energy to homes and businesses.

The other $50,000 will go toward work-force-development efforts, the launching of new online courses and support for the college’s Renewable Energy Center.

The gift was the first of two NV Energy contributions to the college in the next two years. The donations will total $500,000.

Friday’s gift brought the total that NV Energy has donated to the university’s renewable-energy program to $1.25 million
