Harmony offers ‘green’ prize

This month, Harmony Homes is teaming up with Silver State Specialties, a local company that specializes in installing and upgrading energy-efficient home features, to offer two homebuyers in two neighborhoods a free Cool Package — a bundle of home upgrades designed to enhance green living and save money.
The fifth buyer to purchase a home in Harmony Heights and in Harmony Pointe this month will get the company’s signature Cool Package, according to Lorne Wilson, sales manager for Harmony Homes.
“All Harmony Homes communities are Energy Star certified, but we know there is more that can be done to protect your home from the harsh desert environment,” Wilson said. “Silver State Specialties is our energy partner and donating all of the labor and materials to provide two lucky homebuyers with an upgraded energy package that will save thousands over the life span of the home.”
Included in the Cool Package is a solar guard in the attic that reduces 33 percent of the sun’s heat in the home.
“Most of the heat in the summer comes into the home at the roof line,” said Mark Morris, vice president of Silver State Specialties. “By reducing the heat’s effect here, we can help homeowners save significantly on their costs of cooling the home.”
Also included is the company’s Serene and Green method of applying a special wall spray in lieu of traditional batts insulation.
“It is called Cocoon R-13 wall spray and it is 30 percent more dense than batts because it fills all the holes and crevices in the walls instead of simply covering them,” Morris said.
Homeowners receiving the package will get upgraded floor insulation between the first and second floors as well as wall insulation in all rooms to block out sound. In the garage, they will receive an insulated ceiling, door and walls.
According to Morris, the average cost of a Cool Package is about $1,500 and can save thousands over the home’s life span.
“We are a local company and really understand the desert climate and weather,” he said. “This energy package is specifically designed to address the harsh winds and heat in Las Vegas that really no other area in the country has to endure. The cost of the thermal insulation alone should be recouped in a year just from the decreases in heating and cooling costs.”
Prices at Harmony Homes start in the $150,000s and homes range from 1,286 to 3,115 square feet. There are no LIDs (low impact development) or SIDs (special improvement district) in any Harmony Homes neighborhood.
All Harmony Homes are Energy Star certified and include low-e windows, programmable thermostats, 13 SEER air conditioners, energy-efficient gas-heating systems and water heaters as well as gas dryer hookups.
Currently, Harmony Homes is offering an incentive at its Las Vegas neighborhoods that provides homebuyers with as much as 3 percent of the sale price to be used toward closing costs, Wilson said.
The company now also offers an Internet sales division. For more information, visit harmonylasvegas.com and chat live online with a sales agent.
“This is an easy, no-pressure option to find out more about any of our communities,” Wilson said.
Prices in the gated collection in Harmony Heights start at $176,990.
“Our largest home is just $199,990 and only $89 per square foot,” Wilson said. “And some of the home sites have 20- to 25-foot rear yards, large enough for a pool, spa or children’s play area.”
Located in the northwest, Harmony Heights is as close as you can be to Providence, a master-planned community, without being inside it, according to Wilson.
