Burtenshaw reappointed as chairwoman of state Public Utilities Commission

Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday reappointed Alaina Burtenshaw as chairwoman of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

Burtenshaw’s second term begins Oct. 1 and runs through September 2017.

Sandoval said he made the reappointment because the commission has several important cases on its docket, and consistency is important.

“Alaina has worked diligently and confidently in this leadership position and I am pleased that she has agreed to continue to serve in this manner,” he stated.

Burtenshaw has been with the commission since 1992, serving as staff counsel and principal attorney in big rate cases. Sandoval first appointed her as chairwoman in February 2011 to replace Chairman Sam Thompson, who retired.

Burtenshaw has a bachelor of arts in history from Idaho State University, and a law degree from the University of Nebraska. Before she joined the commission, she practiced administrative law at a local private firm.

Burtenshaw is also co-vice chairwoman of the Committee on Water for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.
