WSOP Europe moves from London to France

Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc. has reached a wide-ranging agreement with French casino group Lucien Barriere for its World Series of Poker brand as it prepares to launch poker events in France.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Caesars Interactive said the off-line component of the deal would see BarrierePoker.fr replace Betfair as the headline sponsor of the World Series of Poker Europe, with the event relocating from London to Cannes in the south of France in October.

The interactive subsidiary of Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corp. will initially offer poker tournaments on BarrierePoker.fr, the joint venture between Barriere and Française des Jeux launched in May 2010.

The company plans to launch poker events with Barriere on WSOP.fr. The site initially will debut this year as a French-language WSOP news and information portal.

The deal announced Thursday follows Caesars Interactive’s entrance into the Italian market in December by signing a contract with leading poker network Microgame, which runs the People’s Poker Tour.
