Want a piece of history? Items from the Tropicana are for sale

Updated April 2, 2024 - 6:58 pm

Tropicana fans nostalgic to sit in its theater’s seats one more time can do just that — by buying a row of the red upholstered pieces straight from the property.

The Tropicana’s front doors aren’t even closed yet, but interested shoppers can buy theater doors, room furniture sets, 1,500 flat-screen TVs and other pieces of the resort.

Liquidation sellers of the Bally’s-operated hotel-casino that closes Tuesday have begun to list surplus items from the property. International Content Liquidations, a Dayton, Ohio-based company, is selling items from roughly 1,800 hotel rooms and suites, about a dozen food and beverage outlets and the resort’s pool and conference center.

Interested buyers can also see what’s available through video walking tours on the liquidator’s YouTube channel.

The liquidator is also selling the Tropicana theater doors, made of a red alligator material, for $25,000, according to a Facebook Marketplace listing. A row of seats from inside the theater is listed at $900.

Brendan Bussmann, a Las Vegas-based industry analyst and founder of B Global, said liquidation sales following a resort closure are often a chance for other businesses to buy back-of-house equipment, furniture, fixtures and more at a discounted price. Other public-facing pieces, like those listed on Marketplace, could capture a fan’s interest and also be sold through liquidation.

“Some of that becomes nostalgia, like the doors,” Bussmann said. “The Tropicana is known for all its shows. Those (doors) have seen a lot of history.”

Interested buyers are asked to call International Content Liquidations at 702-933-9540 to set up an appointment. It’s unclear when there might be a public sales event.

Liquidation representatives did not respond to requests for comment. A Bally’s representative directed inquiries to the liquidator.

Tropicana closes Tuesday, nearly 67 years after it opened.

The casino games were to stop overnight and the hotel’s last customers are expected to check out Tuesday morning, all while crews continue their pre-demolition work.
