Utah woman wins $10.7 million Megabucks jackpot

A Utah woman won a $10.7 million Megabucks jackpot on Saturday at the Westgate Las Vegas.

The woman, identified as Trinidad Torres, 78, from Magna, Utah, was in town with a friend playing in Westgate’s blackjack tournament, according to a statement from the casino. It was her first time staying at the Westgate, formerly the Las Vegas Hilton.

Torres put $100 in the machine Saturday and made several $3 bets before she hit the jackpot around 1 p.m.

Westgate CEO David Siegel said he expects Torres’ jackpot to attract more slot players to the Westgate. Superstitious guests will line up to play the winning machine, hoping it produces another jackpot, Siegel said.

“People are very superstitious with the slots,” Siegel said in an interview with the Review-Journal. “They’re hoping lightning will strike twice.”

Torres plans to visit family in the Philippines and buy a new car, Westgate officials said.

“I’m very happy for Ms. Torres,” Siegel said. “It was definitely a win-win for her and for us.”
