Sands taps president for Venetian, Palazzo
A former chief operating officer of Gaylord Hotels has been named the new president of The Venetian and Palazzo resorts by Las Vegas Sands Corp.
John Caparella will oversee the two Strip hotel-casinos, which have a combined 7,000 rooms, and the Sands Expo and Convention Center.
Las Vegas Sands put out a statement on the hiring late Tuesday after Chairman Sheldon Adelson announced Caparella’s new position during the company’s first-quarter earnings conference call.
"John is very engaging and has deep hospitality experience," Adelson said in his prepared conference call remarks. "We’re glad to have John join us, and we think he’ll be a great addition to our Las Vegas operations."
Caparella replaces longtime Las Vegas Sands executive Rob Goldstein, who in January became the company’s president of global gaming operations.
Caparella has almost three decades of experience in the hospitality industry. He most recently was a principal at Redmont Hospitality, a company that provides strategic advice to hospitality and gaming companies.
He served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Gaylord Hotels, was a senior executive with Planet Hollywood International, and spent 17 years at ITT Sheraton with different company hotels on the East Coast.
Las Vegas Sands President Michael Leven said Caparella would bring a fresh approach to the two Strip resorts.
"John will bring new ideas and thoughts to the table while our existing team will offer him great support and insights of their own," Leven said.
