Nevada sports book faces $25,815 fine for taking unauthorized Kentucky Derby bets

The former Leroy’s race and sports book company has agreed to pay a $25,815 fine to settle a complaint filed by state gaming regulators for accepting unauthorized bets on the 2012 Kentucky Derby at four locations.

Leroy’s Horse and Sports Place admitted to the violations in a complaint filed by the state Gaming Control Board on Nov. 29. The settlement must still be approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission.

The commission is scheduled to meet Dec. 20. The violations took place before William Hill Plc completed its $18 million purchases of Lucky’s parent company, American Wagering Inc., in June.

Leroy’s reported to the board May 5 that it had accepted bets on the Kentucky Derby at four locations – Colorado Belle in Laughlin, Hooters Hotel in Las Vegas, Poker Palace in North Las Vegas and Stockmen’s in Elko – licensed to accept sports wagers but not on horse racing.

The company has developed internal procedures to ensure that only licensed locations accept horse racing bets , according to the settlement.
