MGM Resorts expected to announce bid for Massachusetts casino

MGM Resorts International is expected to announce plans today to enter the bidding for a casino in Massachusetts.

The Associated Press, citing unnamed sources, reported the company will partner with a local landowner to develop a 150-acre site in the western Massachusetts town of Brimfield.

The land just north of the Massachusetts Turnpike is owned by David Callahan, chief executive of Palmer Paving Corp. and a principal of Rolling Hills Estates Realty Trust. MGM Resorts operates Bellagio, MGM Grand, The Mirage and the CityCenter complex, which includes Aria.

Massachusetts’ new gaming law allows for three resort casinos, one in the western part of the state.

Regional operator Ameristar Casinos, which is headquartered in Las Vegas, and M Resort owner Penn National Gaming also are expected to bid for the western Massachusetts license.
