Maine opens doors to new Las Vegas-style casino

OXFORD, Maine – Maine’s newest casino has opened for business with speeches, a ribbon cutting and Las Vegas showgirls.

The owners, managers and staff of the Oxford Casino hosted a reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon before the doors opened to the public. The casino has more than 500 slot machines and a dozen table games, including blackjack, poker, craps and roulette. It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Jack Sours, general manager, called the opening “a giant step in what has been a very long journey.” The casino was approved by voters in 2010, and its operators hope to expand this fall.
