Downtown casino plans 5-day closure

Updated December 7, 2023 - 1:36 pm

A downtown Las Vegas hotel-casino will close for five days for work on the casino floor later this month.

Golden Gate, the historic, 122-room property on the corner of Main and Fremont streets, will close Monday, Dec. 18 to Friday, Dec. 22, for a carpet replacement, hotel officials said in a statement Thursday.

“The property will celebrate the reopening with an open bar bash on December 23 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., along with the return of its annual Santa’s Helper contest,” according to the statement.

According to the hotel’s booking portal, Golden Gate isn’t taking room reservations or doesn’t have rooms available from Dec. 17 through Dec. 27.

Circa owners Derek and Greg Stevens own the 117-year-old property on the Fremont Street Experience. Golden Gate is the oldest casino in downtown.

Circa Hospitality Group and subsidiaries, which includes Golden Gate, Circa and D, are facing a potential class-action lawsuit accusing the downtown Las Vegas resort operator of failing to disclose fees and taxes required on comps offered through its loyalty program. The lawsuit states the class action could involve more than 10,000 people, including those who visited the resorts and signed up for the Club One program.

The hospitality group hasn’t commented on the lawsuit
