What’s up with Delaware?

First, lawmakers and the governor decided the state would allow for single-game sports wagering, prompting the four major sports leagues and the NCAA to file action in federal court to stop the plan.

Now, lawmakers are considering a move to legalize table games at the state’s racetrack casinos.

Both moves are ways for Delaware to increase tax revenues.

Union Gaming Group principal Bill Lerner said if Delaware adds table games, additional pressure would be felt in Atlantic City, where casinos are reeling. Pennsylvania slot parlors and New York racinos have cut into the gaming revenues generated by the Boardwalk’s casinos.

Lerner said that if Delaware adds table games, Pennsylvania and Maryland, which offer only slot machines, might have to consider adding table games as well.
