The slot machine industry is celebrating some good news coming from two of the most unlikely places, Ohio and Illinois.

Long-time Las Vegas Sands Corp. executive Rob Goldstein was promoted to executive vice president and saw his employment agreement extended by two-and-a-half years, the company announced Tuesday.

Phil Ruffin spent $775 million to buy Treasure Island from MGM Mirage. But going solo took the property out of the company’s large customer database.
