Murren speaks to MGM Mirage employees: ‘All is well’

MGM Mirage Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Murren would like his company’s 61,000-plus employees to not believe everything they read or see in the media.

On Friday, just after the company made a $200 million payment to keep construction on CityCenter alive for at least another month, employees were contacted through MGM Mirage’s Momentum Online Newsletter.

“Let me make this very clear at the outset: MGM Mirage has not filed for bankruptcy and CityCenter has not filed for bankruptcy,” Murren wrote to workers. “Any suggestion that either has is inaccurate.”

Murren acknowledged the story would not disappear. MGM Mirage is still trying to work out a deal with its joint venture partner in CityCenter, Dubai World, and its lenders. Company executives, he said, will provide employees full details.

“There is little doubt that you will continue to see and hear stories from others about what the future holds for us,” Murren said. “I ask that you please reserve judgment on what you hear while your leadership does the vital work necessary to protect our company’s and your interests.”
