It could get interesting in Massachusetts.
The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that Las Vegas Sands Corp. has renewed the registration of its Massachusetts lobbyist, fueling speculation the company is going to jump into efforts to acquire one of state’s three gaming licenses.
Massachusetts authorized three full-scale hotel-casinos and a slot machine-only facility last year. One of the licenses is for the Boston area and has attracted interest from Caesars Entertainment Corp. and Wynn Resorts.
Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson is a native of the Boston suburb of Dorchester.
The gaming legislation directs that would-be casino developers must be approved by both newly appointed state gaming regulators and win support from local officials and voters for three resort casino licenses.
