A 200-room hotel-casino would garner hardly a mention in Las Vegas.
It’s a little different story in Washington County, Pa.
The Meadows Racetrack and Casino outside Pittsburgh, which operated by Las Vegas-based Cannery Casino Resorts, announced a $25 million project that will include by 2014 the largest hotel in Washington County, an event and convention center and a retail complex.
According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, Cannery Casinos President Bill Paulos said the company is planning to build out a 202-room, seven-story hotel that will carry the Meadows name and be connected with the rest of the complex via skywalk. The top floor of the hotel have seven VIP suites and a restaurant. The top two floors on one side will overlook the Meadows racetrack, which opened in 1963.
Last week, Meadows opened a 1,400-space parking garage. The racetrack and casino attracts nearly 4 million annual customers.
Paulos said he was "extremely pleased" with the progress and the success at Meadows, which he said had tripled the expectations the state had before it opened.
