Adelson meets with Toronto’s mayor to discuss casino opportunities

Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson paid a private visit to the mayor of Toronto on Thursday to discuss the city’s casino landscape.
According to the Toronto Star, Las Vegas Sands has expressed interest in building an integrated entertainment development on Toronto’s waterfront. The province of Ontario is looking at allowing a single hotel-casino project to be built in Canada’s largest city.
MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment and other casino companies have shown an interest in Toronto. Adelson met privately with Mayor Rob Ford in the mayor’s city hall office.
Ford has said he would welcome a casino if it would bring jobs and revenue to the city. It’s unclear however, where the Toronto City Council sits on the issue.
Ontario has said it won’t force the casino on an unwilling municipality.
Adelson was cautious about the gaming opportunity after meeting with Ford, according to the newspaper.
“There’s lots of ifs,” Adelson said.
