V-6 twin-turbo engine raises ‘fun’ quotient of Infiniti Q50

Already a top performer, the Infiniti Q50 sports sedan is once again turning heads by offering a new model powered by an optional 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6 engine that company officials say make the car even more fun to drive.

The 2016 Infiniti Q50 has earned praise from Edmunds.com, which called it “one of the sportier luxury sedans in the class.”

According to Edmunds.com, “The 2016 Infiniti Q50 is thoroughly refreshed this year.” The car reviewer makes note of three new available engines: a turbocharged four-cylinder and two turbocharged V-6 models.

Other changes include revised steering and suspension tuning, as well as improvements to the Direct Adaptive Steering system.

Infiniti officials say the new compact V-6 twin-turbo engine is the most advanced V-6 engine the brand ever has offered, striking an ideal balance between driveability, efficiency and performance.

The 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo is from the exclusive VR-series power train family, born out of the brand’s longstanding heritage of V-6 powertrain production. The new engine has been engineered to empower the driver and offer increased power and torque and higher levels of efficiency than any comparable predecessors from the company.

“The 2016 Infiniti Q50 maintains the sleek design of our signature sports performance vehicle, but the 300- to 400-horsepower engine now gives you an irresistible charge,” said Joe Tortomasi, general manager of Park Place Infiniti at 5555 W. Sahara Ave, where this latest model is now available. “The engine block is crafted out of aluminum alloy to reduce weight and increase responsiveness, giving you a truly thrilling drive.”

This powerful engine can deliver up to 26 miles per gallon on the highway, he said.

Additionally, the Q50’s Intelligent all-wheel drive puts power to the wheels that need it by instantly adapting to changing conditions. When all-wheel drive is not needed, 100 percent of the power goes to the rear wheels for more responsive road performance.

Plus, the Q50 offers layered technologies to help provide safety and convenience.

For instance, this model benefits from more than 10 years of research and development to feature Direct Adaptive Steering. This system digitally and instantaneously transmits steering input directly to the wheels, without a mechanical connection.

Its digital processing power lets the driver steer faster and smoother than ever imagined. When driving on rough or uneven roads, the system is constantly, automatically making subtle adjustments to provide an increased feeling of stability, while decreasing feedback and vibration through the steering wheel.

In terms of advance safety features, a predictive forward collision warning system available in this model warns drivers of risks they may not see coming. Sensors on the front of the Q50 are constantly scanning the road ahead, monitoring both the relative speed and distance of the vehicle in front and the vehicle in front of that one. It sees two cars ahead.

Another layer of safety technology keeps drivers on the straight and narrow, so to speak, with Lane Departure Prevention and Active Lane Control. This system uses a camera to monitor the car’s position within the lane it’s traveling.

If it senses the car moving out of its lane without signaling, the driver is given an audible warning. If the driver continues in that direction, the Lane Departure Prevention System will ease the car back towards the center of the lane. Active Lane Control can help keep the car safely in its lane when driving during a crosswind or on an uneven roadway.
