Scion FR-S fun to drive and gets great gas mileage, too

The 2016 Toyota Scion FR-S at Findlay Toyota fits the bill for a customer looking for a sporty vehicle that also gets excellent gas mileage. With a peppy 2.0-liter powerplant, the FRS delivers 200 horsepower and gets up to 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

And at $27,518, the Scion FR-S is excellent for a variety of drivers ranging from high school and college students, to 40- and 50-year-olds who want to once again experience the feeling of a sporty car with excellent handling.

The Scion FR-S is highlighted by rear-wheel drive, dual exhaust, sports seats, and a backup camera, five-star safety rating and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The vehicle also features a very impressive driver-centric cockpit with a cabin with intuitive controls and comfortable sport sets that hug the body on turns. The interior features red accent stitching, while the dash includes eye-catching sport gauges and an analog tachometer with a programmable rev indicator.

Additionally, the FR-S has seamless gear shifting with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters that come standard on the automatic transmission. With its low center of gravity, the FR-S is very agile and handles well.

“People like the Scion because of the aggressive look, and it’s simply a pretty and dependable car for the money,” said senior sales consultant Mona Liza Pence, who has been with the dealership for almost 10 years.

As a first-year nursing student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Allison Dones is familiar with the sporty 2016 Scion FR-S, considering that it is the second Scion her family has had in the past three years.

“I love the new Scion FR-S because it’s so sporty,” said Dones, who has lived in Las Vegas for about 14 years. “In addition, the gas mileage is unbelievable, and that’s a very important factor considering that I’m going to college.

“It’s very solid, and there is also plenty of power. You definitely get the sports car feeling when driving a Scion.”

Her father, Cesar, said the quality of a Toyota is among the many reasons why the couple supported his daughter’s purchase of a new Scion.

“The quality of a Toyota is excellent,” he said. “Over the years, we have now owned three Toyotas, and we have been very happy with every one of them. Since we moved here, all of our Toyotas have been purchased from Findlay Toyota.”

Pence handled the sale for the Dones family. In fact, she now has sold four models to the family, including a Rav4, Corolla, Camry, along with another FR-S.

Incentives also are being provided by the dealership, which is offering 0.9 percent financing on 60-month financing or a $1,500 rebate for qualified buyers.

“We have always been treated well by Mona,” explained Allison Dones, a 2011 graduate of Chaparral High School. “There is absolutely no pressure working with Mona.”
