Findlay Automotive Group presents donation to Veterans Village

Findlay Automotive Group recently presented a donation of $4,050 to Veterans Village, a Southern Nevada resource that helps United States veterans.

Situated at 1150 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Veterans Village provides housing, medical and mental health services; employment training, referrals and placements; a food pantry and nutrition programs; and transportation to the VA hospital and primary clinics.

Veterans Village founder Arnold Stalk thanked Findlay Automotive Group for its donation, adding that the money will help Veterans Village continue its support of local heroes in the Las Vegas Valley.

“This is our fifth year helping the veterans,” said Stalk, a 23-year resident of Las Vegas who grew up in a military family. “We are serving a huge need in Las Vegas, and we just received approval from the city to build our second project. We are now able to house 375 veterans.

“That money goes to Veterans Village emergency housing and not only helps with the housing, but provides food shelter, clothing and jobs, along with medical and dental referrals.”

Stalk said Veterans Village is open 24/7, 365 days a year to help vets in the community. Dedicated to the creation of an environment that is home to U.S. heroes, Veterans Village is a unique and innovative approach to holistic and comprehensive housing. Also available is a crisis intervention center with intensive support services.

“This is not easy and it takes help from people like Findlay Automotive Group to keep this going,” Stalk said. “We sincerely appreciate what the Findlay Automotive Group people do for this community and especially Veterans Village.”

Findlay Automotive Group CFO Tyler Corder said the company is proud to support local veterans through Veterans Village.

“The Findlay Automotive Group is so appreciative of our veterans that we were specifically looking for a veteran’s charity to support,” Corder said. “After doing a little research we were introduced to Arnold at Veterans Village.

“We were very impressed by the wonderful work being done at Veterans Village and all of the services that they provide. One of the things we especially liked is that it is a local charity supporting veterans right here in Las Vegas. We’re proud to be able to provide assistance to this great veterans charity.”

Further information regarding Veterans Village can be found by visiting www.vvlv.org or by calling Stalk at 702-624-5792.

Findlay Automotive Group was founded more than 50 years ago by the late Pete Findlay, who piloted P-38s in 63 combat missions during World War II. After the war, he returned home to Nevada and started Findlay Automotive Group. Company operations are now spearheaded by Findlay’s, son, Cliff, who leads 28 automobile dealerships in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Oregon.

Lexus dealerships sponsor RMHC back-to-school supplies drive

Lexus of Las Vegas and Lexus of Henderson are the location drop-off sponsors of the 2016 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas back-to-school supplies drive. Southern Nevada residents are urged to purchase and donate badly needed school supplies such as pencils, crayons, pocket calculators, three-ring binders, glue sticks, backpacks and other classroom items for Clark County School District students.

Collection boxes have been set up near the parts departments at both Lexus dealerships. The Lexus of Las Vegas dealership is located at 6600 W. Sahara Ave. The Lexus of Henderson dealership is at 7736 Eastgate Roa, Henderson. School supplies will be collected throughout the month of August.

“It means a lot to us for Lexus to reach out and support the community this way,” said Linett Posada, programs coordinator of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas. “These kids are our future, and this drive gives them hope and lets them know the community supports them.”

In conjunction with the back-to-school supplies drive, Ronald McDonald House Charities is hosting its second annual Smarts &Smiles event from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23-25 at the Ronald McDonald House, 2323 Potosi St. The RMHC Care Mobile will be available to provide dental care and vision screenings for uninsured and underinsured children ages 3-21.

Children who receive dental treatment will be given a backpack stuffed with school supplies. Appointments are on a first-come, first-serve basis through Nevada Health Centers.
