2017 Shelby GT350 draws a crowd at Friendly Ford

The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 arrived at Friendly Ford in mid-July and it didn’t take long for interested customers to start visiting the dealership.

First introduced in 1965, the Ford Shelby Mustang gets more popular every year. With the never-ending love of performance cars in the United States, the Shelby Mustang has set the pace in the popularity of what is referred to as “The American Icon.”

The Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter V-8 is the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine that Ford has ever produced. With an impressive 526 horsepower and 429 foot-pound of torque, the engine includes a flat-plane crankshaft that was developed exclusively for the Shelby Mustang.

In fact, this is the first time that Ford has utilized the technology.

Dealership sales consultant Gary Medina has sold one Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 along with several regular 5.0-liter GT Mustangs.

“Shelby debuted the GT350 on Jan. 27, 1965,” Medina said. “Since its public debut, the car has been an instant hit.”

Medina said the excitement of the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby 350 is based on several factors including performance, the lightweight six-speed transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential were engineered specifically for the vehicle.

“The car is made for the track,” Medina said.

Ford Performance Director Dave Pericak said, “The Shelby GT350 is the pinnacle of performance Mustangs today. It lays out the groundwork for a story that will play out for years to come on the track and on the street.”

Also important is the brake system which was designed by the Ford Performance team so the driver can go straight from the showroom to the racetrack.

The aerodynamics of the 2017 Shelby GT350 are also strong elements. The hood, fenders, fascia, splitter and belly pan are specially designed to reduce drag and front-end lift.

Medina said his sale of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 was made to a Las Vegas businessman.

“He had been coming to the dealership on numerous occasions,” Medina said. “Once you get the fever to purchase a Shelby GT350, there is no turning back.

Located at 660 N. Decatur Blvd., Friendly Ford opened in 1970. The dealership is a 17-time winner of the prestigious President’s Award, Ford’s highest single honor for customer satisfaction.
