2017 Mustang Shelby GT350R arrives at Friendly Ford

The 2017 Mustang Shelby GT350R arrived in the showroom of Friendly Ford in late November, and, as expected, it is a “looker” that undoubtedly is headed for someone’s garage soon.

The two-passenger sports car with a 5.2 liter TI-VCT V-8 looks fast sitting still in the showroom.

Or as Ford says, the Mustang is powerful by design. With 526 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, the Mustang GT350R redlines at 8,250 rpm and, in fact, is the highest-revving production V-8. The performance fits perfectly with the outward exterior that includes an aggressive front splitter, vented aluminum front fenders and hood, along with a rear spoiler, facia and integrated diffuser.

Adding to the expertise and commitment of Ford is the fact that the ’17 Mustang Shelby GT 350R features a MagneRide damping system that monitors and adjusts itself thousands of times per second to create an “adrenalin-fueled” driving experience.

Referred to as a “race-tuned monster,” the newest Mustang Shelby GT350R also has quad exhaust with active valve technology. A true racing machine, the vehicle rides on 19-inch carbon-fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires and a carbon fiber rear wing.

However, while the Ford Shelby GT350R has it all in performance, it sports an impressive interior that ties comfort with what is referred to as “next level connectivity SYNC3,” complete with features such as easy-to-use interface, Navigation with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link with a five-year complimentary trial subscription.

“Everyone is talking about how awesome the car is,” said sales consultant Shane Caminos Jr. “The GT350 has wider tires for better handling so it really hugs the road.”

Caminos said the 2016 GT350R was voted second best driver’s car of the year.

“Without a doubt, this model will be No. 1,” he said. “Everyone loves this car and it draws everyone’s attention. It definitely has its own identity. There is nothing else like it.”

Caminos said the brakes on the GT 350R are especially impressive.

“The Brembo brakes are a key factor in making the car special,” he said. “The trick to going fast is stopping fast. The quicker you slow down, the sooner you can get back on the gas with complete control of the vehicle.”

Caminos said the history of the Mustang is fascinating.

“The Mustang is an iconic muscle car,” he said. “Many models come and go, but the Mustang exceeded anyone’s early predictions.”

Once Carroll Shelby’s name was added to the Mustang, the addition took the vehicle to an all-new level.

“Carroll Shelby took a muscle car and made it a track car,” Caminos said. “That was what inspired Ford to take the GT350 to another level.”

Automotive publications such as Edmonds gave the ’17 Shelby GT350R a very favorable reviewsaid: “Supreme grip and handling precision around turns; strong, high-revving V-8 engine infuses the car with plenty of race car character; rides comfortably despite the focus on performance.”

Situated at 660 N. Decatur Blvd., Friendly Ford opened in 1970. The dealership is a 17-time winner of the prestigious President’s Award, Ford’s highest single honor for customer satisfaction.
