Four-run seventh dooms 51s in 6-1 PCL loss at Nashville

Matt Carson hit a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning, and his run-scoring single in the seventh capped the scoring in Nashville’s four-run frame as the Sounds surged past the 51s 6-1 in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.

Five players had two hits apiece for the Sounds (22-27), who won their sixth straight game and dealt Las Vegas (29-21) its fourth straight loss.

51s starter Duane Below (4-3), who had thrown two straight complete games, gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out two in six innings. Relievers Cody Satterwhite and Scott Rice combined to give up four runs in the seventh.

Nashville starter Sean Nolin gave up one run on three hits and four walks and struck out two in four innings. Three relievers combined to shut out Las Vegas the rest of the way on four hits and no walks.

Ryan Verdugo (2-3) got the win by working into the seventh. Ambidextrous reliever Pat Venditte struck out three in 1 2/3 innings, and Ryan Cook worked a perfect ninth.

The 51s opened the scoring in the third inning on Matt Reynolds’ sacrifice fly, and the Sounds tied it on Anthony Aliotti’s RBI single in the fourth.

Kent Matthes and Nate Freiman had RBI singles in the seventh.

Johnny Monell went 3-for-3 for the 51s, who were outhit 14-7. Jayce Boyd, in his second game with Las Vegas since being promoted from Double-A Binghamton, got his first Triple-A hit and finished 2-for-3.
