HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Sunshine Lover – In these baby races, it’s automatic to see if Ward has one in the field; this filly has quick, win early pedigree.

Frecklesgrandact – Of the two with experience, this one ran OK in her career debut; Stute adding blinkers on and switches to Garcia.

Long Shot – Hi Lilly Hi Lo

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $55,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Sinister Minister – Suspect he’ll set a brisk pace that’ll take the start out of early challengers; has never duplicated his Blue Grass.

Victory Sign – Frankel is always dangerous and has put bugboy Talamo on most of his live horses; this one can benefit from a speed duel.

Long Shot – Double Galore

Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $49,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Ten Downing Street – Speedball may be able to get off easy, as long as Straight Run doesn’t grill him; turf rail out 15 feet will help.

Iza General – Dead late closer got up late last time facing Cal-breds; he still remains eligible for the condition facing open company.

Long Shot – Big Picture

Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Evaluate – Been knocking on the door without winning; he stretches out in distance where his speed and class may just be too much.

Cryptomite – Nice turf effort in last, first time racing for the Mullins barn; if there is a front running upsetter, he’s logical.

Long Shot – Forward Commitment

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Silent Soul – Did everything but win last time in a tough chalk beat; he gets the same class relief today and must make no mistakes.

Organ Pipe – Mullins takes over, so a dramatic improvement is always possible; the Mig riding for an injured Gryder, he’ll be patient.

Long Shot – Grey Rover

Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Go Dawg – She debuted for a price tag for Baffert, but ran fast enough to beat MSW; was flattered when Sindy With an S won next out.

After Curfew – Speedball would be a logical upsetter if she forgets to stop this time; she was well regarded earlier in her career.

Long Shot – Poule d’Eau

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Thunder Counter – Speedball has a chance to steal this at a square price; he bounced last time, but his race two back can upset these.

My City by the Bay – Sharp maiden claiming win and his tactical speed deserves a good look today; like the bugboy Talamo on board.

Long Shot – Oliver Twisted

Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $100,000 Inglewood Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Stormin Away – Upset chance in what could be a real scramble; I see a ton of early speed and think a cavalry charge can come late.

After Market – Was given a very poor ride last time by Solis as a beaten chalk; chance to redeem himself at square odds today.

Long Shot – Red Fort

Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

I Beat the Fire – Taking a small, but significant, class drop to face the bottom SoCal level; he won’t find an easier group than this.

Silver and Black – Would be an appropriate winner because the Oakland Raiders have the #1 NFL draft pick today; can wake up for Mullins.

Long Shot – Hobgoblin

Best Bet – Go Dawg (race 6)

Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$21.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$34.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 32/7/$52.20; Long Shots, 14/2/$74.00; Best Bets, 2/0/$0
