HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Soar With Eagles – Soft spot for U.S. debut for this highly regarded import; Canani takes his time and debuts them ready.

Optimer – Did everything but win last time in a terrific effort; still he’s stuck at this NW1X condition for four races.

Long Shot – Yodelen Dan

Race 2 – 1 1/8th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds

Buc the Spartan – Interesting colt was a stride late last time in a strong effort; similar try can get the job done today.

Knighthood – Ground saving trip by Espinoza can keep him in the hunt throughout; forwardly placed in a paceless race.

Long Shot – Pointing Star

Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Mi Rey – Mullins barn is heating up, enough to sway me to the inside horse; in a tough heat, the trip will mean everything.

Buck Tuddy Buck – Tepid chalk was a nonthreatening third last time facing similar; I’m not sure he can do much better here.

Long Shot – Ocean Grand

Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Yes Its a Cat – Mullins FTS cost $160k at the Ocala spring 2-YO in training sales; must have looked good for that amount.

Bond – Apparently is working better than looks on the worktab; sire was a top miler, so this guy may have some high cheese.

Long Shot – Beresford

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

Samwise – You’ll get more than 3/1 odds due to a low percentage rider in Atkinson; ran well off a layoff and drops in class.

Lord Albion – Tepid chalk in a wide open route race; claimed off a win by Hess, suspect this 9-YO has something left to give.

Long Shot – Patriotic Flame

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Lt. Lorraine – Mitchell filly was bet in her debut and did not run a step; suspect she’s better than that, and at a price.

Run Kitty Run – Logical chalk from a barn that is winless at the meet; been working fast and will be the one to catch late.

Long Shot – Truckee Trance

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Me My Mine – Always respect the Martin barn from NoCal; like the turn back angle into an expected lively early pace duel.

Nerinx – Claimed by Sadler who gives NoCal import rider Rosario a shot on a live mount; tactical speed to sit a good trip.

Long Shot – Shakin N Dancin

Race 8 – 1 3/4 miles (turf), $75,000 Round Table Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Runaway Dancer – Logical chalk has proven he can run all day on turf; they don’t write races at this distance very often.

Spring House – Eastern invader lands in the always dangerous Canani barn; he puts the blinkers on, keep an eye on this guy.

Long Shot – Church Service

Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Exploited Dream – Suspect that meet leading rider Baze can harness her early speed and save energy for the late running.

Afleet’s Desire – Ran miserably last time going around 2-turns; Solis takes over, he’ll sit a trip and rally wide late.

Long Shot – Ruthie’s Girl

Best Bet – Soar With Eagles (race 1)

Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$20.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 651/151/$968.00; Long Shots, 318/44/$455.40; Best Bets, 38/16/$63.60
