Toddler killed by car would have been 2
A toddler killed by a hit-and-run driver on Friday night was identified as Alejandro Castillo Jr.
The boy was hit after wandering into the street just before midnight near a bus stop on Sahara Avenue west of Lamb Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.
The family of eight had just exited a Citizens Area Transit bus, and the boy’s parents were loading another child into a stroller when Alejandro walked into the street, police said.
Alejandro was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died less than an hour later. He would have turned 2 today.
Police were searching for the car, a dark-gray sedan, possibly a Dodge Stratus, with dark tinted windows.

Former firefighter’s home goes up in flames
A former county firefighter’s home went up in flames Saturday on Mount Charleston.
No one was hurt in the fire, but six cats died, said Kurt Leavitt, rural fire coordinator for the Clark County Fire Department.
The two-story home at 230 Rainbow Canyon Blvd. was owned by Stanley and Rebecca Grismanauskas, who bought it 21 years ago. They were not home when the fire started.
A neighbor smelled smoke about 5 p.m. and spent about 20 minutes tracing its source. She called firefighters about 5:30 p.m., Leavitt said.
About 40 firefighters battled the fire, which was started by an electrical short in the second-story floor. Leavitt did not know the dollar amount of the damage.
Stanley Grismanauskas retired in 2002 after 30 years with the county Fire Department.

75-year-old woman dies after being robbed
A 75-year-old North Las Vegas woman died after she was robbed early Saturday morning while using her motorized wheelchair to travel from her home to a nearby convenience store , North Las Vegas police said.
Officers were called to the 7-Eleven store at the corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Simmons Street about 2:30 a.m. regarding the robbery of Josephine Muscolo.
Muscolo had some minor visible injuries and was taken to University Medical Center but died shortly after she arrived, police said.
The Clark County coroner’s office was investigating Muscolo’s cause of death Monday.
