Four Crusaders earn spots on 3A state baseball squad

Class 3A state baseball champion Faith Lutheran placed four players on the 3A all-state first team selected by the state’s coaches.
Catcher James Anger, outfielder Adam Jones, utility player Dave Anderson and pitcher Chuck Buchanan represented the Crusaders on the first team.
Other area players on the squad were first baseman Zach Bartholomew and shortstop Brett Moravec of Boulder City, third baseman Daniel Miller and pitcher Tyrell Smith of Pahrump Valley and outfielder Bob Vallet of Moapa Valley.
Dayton shortstop Tom O’Brien was named the state’s Most Valuable Player, and Spring Creek’s Scott Gilligan was the Coach of the Year.
• HIGH HONOR — Palo Verde wrestler Kyle Barrett has been selected to the Wrestling USA Magazine All-American Academic Team.
Barrett, a two-time state champion, posted a career mark of 149-34 and a grade point average of 4.75.
• WRESTLING EVENT — The Southern Nevada Wrestling Coaches Association will have its first All-Star Dual meet on Friday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The event pits the top seniors from the Sunrise Region against the best seniors from the Sunset.
The meet begins at 5 p.m. Basic’s Jim Duschen will coach the Sunrise, and Palo Verde’s Kris Davis leads the Sunset.
