HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Charisma Matters – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; will be dead fit from turf routes.

Veils De Fleur – Showed a lot of improvement last time with class relief from MSW to claiming; stretching out here.

Long Shot – Eric’s Baby

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Beltline Jack – Beaten choice faces a similar task today in a small field; will stalk Our Partner and grind on late.

Our Partner – Speedy sort may play cat and mouse early with Las Vegas Lucky; has shown he can sit just off and win.

Long Shot – Closet Trader

Race 3 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds

Zoomin Zabel – FTS by Swiss Yodeler is from the Harrington barn; he need not be much to compete with these slowpokes.

Leonardo C. S. – The one starter with experience that looks like something; adding blinkers on has to be a positive move.

Long Shot – County Tune

Race 4 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Butterfly Belle – Dead late closer should see an aggressive pace with which to close into; found new home on grass.

Wickersham – Speedball figures to have to fight off early contenders; she has sprinter speed and is the one to catch.

Long Shot – Pen Pal

Race 5 – 1 1/4 miles, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Tice – Has been an entirely different runner since being gelded last year; may be lone speed today, the best bet in racing.

Like a Tiger – Dead late closer will hope that Tice has problems in the final furlong; Valdivia should try and sit closer.

Long Shot – Sensational Score

Race 6 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Blue Torpedo – Turned in a nice effort off a year hiatus; figures to see a lively pace and be in a cavalry charge to the wire.

Witness This – Spawr barn has been relatively quiet, but has teamed up well with the Mig; claimed and aggressively raised.

Long Shot – Greatest Hope

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Fleetheart – This filly may develop into a top notch sprinter; Cerin is taking his time and moving thru her conditions.

Get the Money – Dead late closer ran a very strong second in last off a 2-month hiatus; should offer a very square price.

Long Shot – Rey Lake

Race 8 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet) Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Game A. P. – Got a good education in debut; walked from the gate, allowed to find his best stride, then absolutely flew late.

The Big One – Beaten chalk is knocking on the door to graduate; with each loss another potential upsetter goes by the board.

Long Shot – More Shine

Best Bet – Charisma Matters (race 1)

Hollywood Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$21.80; Long Shots, 9/2/$14.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 183/40/$300.20; Long Shots, 92/12/$156.60; Best Bets, 11/3/$12.60
