FAILURE TO YIELD

Woman faces charge in fatal cycle crash

A 23-year-old Henderson woman who was involved in a fatal vehicle crash in Henderson on March 22 is facing a charge in Henderson Municipal Court in the accident.

Melissa Chernoff is facing one count of failure to yield to the right of way. She had pulled out in front of an 18-year-old Henderson man on Equestrian Drive at Roan Road, according to municipal court documents.

Mario Pernett, who was driving a 2004 Kawasaki ZX6-RR motorcycle, slammed into the side of Chernoff’s 2002 Toyota Corolla.

Henderson police had previously indicated that the initial investigation found Pernett appeared to have been at fault because he was speeding. A police report about the collision, however, says that Pernett was not speeding.
