ESPN stunts to ring in new year at Rio

Action sports stars Robbie Maddison and Rhys Millen will attempt record-setting jumps Monday as part of ESPN’s “New Year. No Limits” at the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Road.

The live broadcast will feature Maddison, a freestyle motocross rider from Australia, attempting to jump the length of a football field and Millen, a champion drifter and movie stunt driver from New Zealand, attempting the first-ever backflip of an off-road racing truck.

The first jump will take place between 8:15 and 9:30 p.m. with the second jump between 11 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

UFC 79 takes over Mandalay Bay

Welterweight champion Matt “The Terror” Serra and former champion Matt Hughes will square off at UFC 79: Nemesis at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Mixed martial arts legends Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva also will face each other.

Tickets are $100-$1,000.
