See the world at Festival of Cultures
Around the world in a day? It’s more than a fantasy at Saturday’s Henderson Festival of Cultures, a celebration of song, dance, food and fun at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.
Along with 45 music and dance presentations, the festival, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., features craft demonstrations and food booths — even a “beers of the world” area.
From hula to flamenco, participating dance troupes span the globe, representing North America (Mexico and several American Indian tribes), South America (Peru), Asia (India, Japan and Thailand), Africa (Egypt and Morocco) and Europe (Ireland, Spain and Ukraine).
On the musical side, American blues shares the spotlight with Irish, Caribbean steel drum, West African and Ukrainian performances.
Crafts demonstrations spotlight Persian art and Farsi calligraphy, Navajo silversmithing and weaving and Ukrainian egg painting, while a make-and-take children’s area features Hawaiian lei-making, Mexican flower-making and Japanese origami.

‘Peter Pan’ to take flight through Nov. 10
Signature Productions will present the musical “Peter Pan” through Nov. 10 at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today, Monday and Thursday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
Other performances will take place Oct. 19-20, Oct. 22, Oct. 24-25, Oct. 27, Oct. 29, Nov. 1-3, Nov. 5 and Nov. 8-10.
