DVD player converts picture to high-definition

OPPO Digital, a leader in up-converting DVD players, recently debuted its first player to offer 7.1 channel audio output and 1080p video conversion. The OPPO DV-980H allows standard DVDs to look their best on high-definition TVs.

The Silicon Valley-based manufacturer designed the player with a focus on sound and picture quality.

Using ideas and input from audiovisual enthusiasts and high-fidelity audio equipment partner companies, OPPO designed the player to detect the extra surround back channel that is encoded into movie sound tracks which places sounds behind the listener. Additionally, its video processor delivers pictures with more depth, detail and smoother motion.

“OPPO is known for making quality DVD players that everyone can afford and enjoy, and we’ve done it again with the DV-980H,” said Jason Liao, vice-president of product development. “Users can put their worry about the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray battle behind. Instead, they can appreciate their music and DVD collections at a whole new level with an OPPO player.”

To bring the best DVD experience to flat-panel and high-definition TVs, the DV-980H offers multiple high-definition output formats, and features multichannel, high-resolution audio through its HDMI 1.2a output.

Its USB 2.0 port, high-resolution photo slide show capability and DivX playback function opens the home theater to digital cameras, portable audio players, computers and contents downloaded from the Internet.

The player is priced at $169. It can be purchased directly at www.oppodigital.com.
