TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Semi Lost – Mullins is never afraid to drop down to win, just don’t try claiming from him in those spots; dead late closer tactics.
Olympic Miler – We’ll see in race one how the early speed will hold up on Friday night; goes as fast and as far as he can.
Long Shot – Celtic Sword
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Peace Accord – Won’t need much imagination to see a $10 Mullins daily double; claimed from Sadler, three good works since.
Steamy Story – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; Chavez has ridden few horses, but he’s always tough.
Long Shot – Oakland Avenue
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf) $100,000 Flawlessly, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Ashley’s Kitty – Was overmatched in the Hollywood Oaks, should find these much more accomodating; closing fast from left field.
Passified – Logical chalk runs fast enough to win, but needs to have things his own way; speedy sort will need a softer pace.
Long Shot – Spenditallbaby
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Cherokee Tear – Baffert uncoupled entry looking awful tough in here; pulling five pounds with Talamo is like stealing money.
Wineshine – Other Baffert loses the services of Talamo to the favorite; off the turf, ran much better in Cushion track debut.
Long Shot – Awesome Shine
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf), $1 Million Cash Call Mile, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Precious Kitten – Frankel has a talented uncoupled entry in play, this is the longer price of the pair; saves all the ground.
Price Tag – Ran a huge race in the Gamely trying to catch lone speed stablemate Citronnade; one of the best in the division.
Long Shot – Lady of Venice
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Sixcess – Gets big time class relief from the Barretts to face a first level allowance; from the white hot Ellis barn too.
Dr. Sinatra – Exiting a career best, which still wasn’t good enough to win; bugboy Talamo figures to sit and make one run.
Long Shot – El Banco
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, $150,000 A Gleam Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pussycat Doll – Grade 1 mare is facing a field at a much lower level; this elongated sprint distance appears to be her best.
Somethinaboutlaura – Hard knocking mare has won more than $800k the hard way with 14 career wins; she rarely runs a bad one.
Long Shot – Theverythoughtof U
Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $31,000, 4-year-olds and up
Bills Paid – Dead late closer has run well recently, but needs the help of others to win; off the turf angle for Cushion track.
Midwesterner – Been away 9-months but like that Espinoza chose to ride this comebacker; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot – Smudgeledo
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Tejano Forever – Been away 20-months, but is facing a full field devoid of talent; work pattern suggest he’s doing OK.
Dr. Oliver – The less starts at this bottom level the better, thus one start is a positive; Espinoza stays for the finale.
Long Shot – Rocky Joe
Best Bet – Pussycat Doll (race 7)
Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$22.60; Long Shots, 7/2/$13.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.40
Hollywood Totals – 915/213/$1,405.60; Long Shots, 444/62/$664.80; Best Bets, 54/24/$102.80
