Jury in Thomas trial begins deliberations

A jury asked for hundreds of pages of testimony and documents as it began its first full day of deliberations Friday in the sexual harassment case brought by a former top New York Knicks executive against coach Isiah Thomas.

The jury asked for transcripts of testimony of four men, including Thomas, along with e-mails sent by the plaintiff, Anucha Browne Sanders, to the president of Madison Square Garden, also a defendant in the $10 million sexual harassment lawsuit.

Also: A federal judge sentenced Robert “Tractor” Traylor to three years of probation after the former NBA player admitted to preparing a false tax return that hid assets of a convicted drug dealer.

Traylor, 30, pleaded guilty in January to a charge of aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false tax return. He could have been sentenced to up to 14 months in federal prison.

Ochoa rallies but still trails Prammanasudh

Lorena Ochoa finished with three birdies to stay within striking distance of Stacy Prammanasudh after the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala.

Prammanasudh rolled in a 12-foot eagle putt on the par-5 eighth hole at Capitol Hill’s Senator Course en route to a 4-under-par 68 that left her at 13-under 131, three strokes ahead of Ochoa.

Ochoa, seeking her fourth straight victory, shot 68.

Also: David Branshaw made 11 straight pars in a swirling wind, then birdied his final two holes to take a one-stroke lead in the Viking Classic in Madison, Miss.

Branshaw, in his third year on the PGA Tour at 37, finished at 10-under 134 and is looking for his first win.

Bill Haas and 2001 champion Cameron Beckman are a stroke back.

Britain and Ireland won the second set of fourball matches 3-2 to pull even with Continental Europe at 5 in the Seve Trophy in Killenard, Ireland.

Justin Rose and Paul Casey — at 13th and 22nd the two highest-ranked players in the event — held on for a 1-up victory over Spaniards Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in the final match.

Venus Williams reaches Korea Open semifinals

Venus Williams defeated Marta Domachowska 6-2, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Korea Open in Seoul.

The top-seeded Williams trailed 3-1 in the second set before winning five straight games.

Williams will face Flavia Pennetta in one of today’s semifinals.

Also: Lleyton Hewitt was upset by Rainer Schuettler 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Mumbai Open in Mumbai, India.

Roger Federer pulled out of next week’s Japan Open because he needs to rest after the U.S. Open and Davis Cup.

Wrestler Adams died by accidental overdose

Former professional wrestler Brian “Crush” Adams died last month after accidentally ingesting a lethal mixture of prescribed medications.

The 44-year-old Tampa, Fla., resident died Aug. 13 from mixing a strong painkiller with muscle relaxants and two different types of sedatives, the medical examiner’s office said.

The therapeutic levels of each of the drugs in his system combined to slow Adams’ respiratory system enough to kill him.

Also: UNLV’s women’s tennis team went 9-0 in singles and doubles during the first day of the Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Playing in the top flight, senior star Elena Gantcheva, ranked 50th in the preseason, beat Leslie Vial of Northern Arizona, 6-0, 6-0.

Also winning in the top flight was new UNLV player Katy Williams. The Long Beach State transfer defeated Alex Kichoukin of Tulsa, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.

Daniel Cruz and Lamar Neagle each had a goal as the UNLV men’s soccer team (4-3-2) won back-to-back games for the first time since 2005 with a 2-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield (2-5-3) at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Kristin Sims and Armani Rice had shots on goal in the second overtime, but neither was able to score as the UNLV women’s soccer team (4-2-3) settled for a scoreless tie with Pacific (5-2-2) in Stockton, Calif.

Wally Parks, an automobile enthusiast who founded the National Hot Rod Association and helped turn drag racing into a legitimate sport, died of complications from pneumonia in Burbank, Calif. He was 94.
