HORSE RACING
August 30, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Toy’s Toy – Speed has been swallowed up for the most part of the Del Mar meet; it’s doing much better later in the meet.
Feel Free to Flee – Took money in debut for a low percentage barn; Solis looks a lot more comfortable riding the Polytrack.
Long Shot – Tiztuff
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $36,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Topper’s Gold – Claimed by Monteleone, which has beaten a steady path to the winner’s circle; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Blue Cay – Ran well last time and continues as a steady paycheck earner for Mitchell; appears to love synthetic surfaces.
Long Shot – Turks Rebecca
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Siberzar – Typical Sherman claim, you can see the improvement with every race; third start off the claim can be a winner.
Buck Basolo – He appears to be begging to go long and gets the chance to do that today; Talamo sits and makes one run.
Long Shot – Sir Bell
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Seven Nation Army – Was entered and scratched recently, now returns at this bottom level; Mullins jams him down our throats.
Hemet Thought – Sherman could win more than one today as he sends out many live ones; enough back class to repeat the trip.
Long Shot – Hudson Bank
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Barbara’s Love – Ran miserably in last when rushed full bore into a speed duel; Garcia figures to let her settle on her own.
Flying Home – Sight unseen for 3-months since two even Cushion track races; beaten chalk could easily improve for Gaines.
Long Shot – Unusually Hot
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $63,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Hello Bolly – Mullins is making a serious run for the trainer title; ran OK last time and had some trouble during mid-race.
Silber – Dead late closer is a sneaky sort from the sneaky Abrams barn; he has a tendency to win when you least expect it.
Long Shot – Tiz Next
Race 7 – 1 mile, $85,000 Adoration Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Screen Giant – She stretches out for the first time, but is meant to be a very nice horse; Smith will sit and make one run.
Great Opinions – Won a quarter-mile sprint to the wire last time out; maybe she is finally getting the hang of winning.
Long Shot – Dona Amelia
Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Instant Action – Koriner pulls the plug pretty quickly on this colt, dropping in for a claiming price; he is a fast horse.
Foul Play – Second time Mullins is usually a dangerous bet angle; he could be going for an equador by the time we speak.
Long Shot – Oscar the Mayor
Best Bet – Hello Bolly (race 6)
Del Mar Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/1/$3.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$7.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals – 596/144/$1,015.40; Long Shots, 300/37/$472.20; Best Bets, 36/17/$73.80
