Mini-Me

Ever since 1958, skirts keep getting shorter and shorter and shorter. Then British fashion designer Mary Quant came along, loved the Courrèges styles of shorter skirts from the 1964 collection, and hiked them up so far that they sat a good six or seven inches above the knee. The advent of opaque tights and leggings made wearing a mini even more accessible than ever before. A trend was born.

Even today the mini-skirt and mini-dress still have places in your closet, especially if you have the legs or youthful disposition necessary for this look. By day, a cowl-neck version such as this dress from Tibi will look appropriate at the office. On the weekends, an innocent number such as this look from Miu Miu will look appropriate while you’re gathering groceries or shopping. And while you’re out on the town, a little lace will create the right tone. Just wear those opaque stockings or leggings to keep the look from being over the top.
