TODAY AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Heaven Tonight – FTS from Dominguez barn is by top juvenile stallion, More Than Ready; watch the tote board close for clues.
Remember Seattle – Solid debut performance for Knight barn; he adds blinkers on for more speed, certainly the one to beat.
Long Shot – Bouquet of Roses
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Applaud Dubai – Mullins charge is dropped down dramatically in class; exits a key race, which adds some respectability.
Elsie Jo – Another taking a humongous class drop in here; set suicidal fractions in last, will enjoy the softer company.
Long Shot – Stormy Racer
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $23,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Warren’s Secret – Like the rider switch to Nakatani for the money shot; showed he’s better as a late closing sprinter.
Run Forest Run – Speedball will enjoy the turf rail out 30 feet today; taking a slight turn back in distance for this.
Long Shot – World News
Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $26,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Bros Sis – Claimed by Spawr out of a winning maiden claiming effort; by Skimming who was an excellent 2-turn racehorse.
Salt Castle – She broke her maiden going around 2-turns, now tries to duplicate that feat; will sit closer to the pace.
Long Shot – Warren’s Appeal
Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 2-year-olds
Sportsbookjunkee – Should be dead fit upon exiting two turf route races; big class drop from MSW to claiming too.
Wild and Ready – Miller barn continues to perform above average work; speedy sort figures to attend the early pace.
Long Shot – Follows None
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $45,000, Allowance, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Macadamia – Like this filly a lot, hate the inside post going down the hillside course; Nakatani will look for a seam late.
Petite Cherie – Parking lot post is much better going down the hill; import makes her U.S. debut, was a sprinter in Ireland.
Long Shot – Whimsical Miss
Race 7 – 1 1/4 miles, Purse $47,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Mi Arcobaleno – Got a very tentative ride last time, Frankel noticed and legs up Espinoza today; is bred to run all day.
Sound Barrier – After seven career turf starts, tries something new, Cushion track; should be dead fit for this marathon.
Long Shot – Add Heat
Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Mommy Jean – Miserable race over slop in last as the 2/5 chalk; she’s better than that and can rebound at a square price.
Mudlaff Charlie – Speedball figures to take some catching; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming.
Long Shot – Mahalo Lani
Best Bet – Mommy Jean (race 8)
Santa Anita Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$28.20; Long Shots, 7/1/$14.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$9.20
