Shopper’s Delight

Walking through malls in Las Vegas often provokes reveries of unthinkable things such as curbside parking and tourist-free shopping. At last, a new mall has arrived that allows us to fantasize about much more interesting things. Town Square opens the doors of its 1.5 million-square-foot mall Wednesday and plans to offer Las Vegans a foreign shopping concept: convenience.

"The niche we’re hoping to fill is with that local shopper," said Vicki Rousseau, director of marketing for Turnberry Associates, Town Square’s developer. "We’re creating a reason for people to come back."

That means benefits for locals, not the folks who fly home on Sunday. Aside from fewer camera flashes while perusing the outdoor mall and 150 new retail venues to visit, you can also look forward to skipping Strip traffic. The real enticement, however, comes with a parking meter attached to it: curbside parking. Those who have developed a loyalty to stores such as Sephora and Juicy Couture at casino malls will be delighted to know they no longer need comfortable shoes and bottled water to visit them.

"Locals have been asking Sephora to do this for a long time," said Detra Petroski, store director of Town Square’s Sephora.

Town Square grants another long-awaited wish among local shoppers and it arrives in the form of a 27,000-square-foot flagship H&M store. Although the authority in fast fashion graced Vegas with its first store just last month at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort, locals found themselves a little disappointed at the low-scale size and teen-aimed inventory of the store. Town Square’s H&M provides the space and selection — women’s, men’s, children’s and lingerie — that made you travel to California all those years.

Other exciting fashion projects include the first-ever Las Vegas stand alone Michael Stars boutique and Eleven Boutique, a complement to Miami’s Eleven spa, which will open in spring of 2008.

While the stores will undoubtedly get your attention, it’s the previously reserved-for-tourists-accommodations that will have you at hello. Two stoplights away from the junction of Interstates 15 and 215, Town Square, its generous parking and seven entrances, couldn’t have made it easier on the Vegas shopper.
