FISHING REPORT

* LAKE MEAD — Action for striped bass has picked up along the beaches near Special Events Beach. Shore anglers have been catching the fish on lures mimicking shad. Live shad and anchovies also might produce bites.

The Las Vegas Wash area continues to yield small stripers to anglers jigging baits or casting top-water hardware.

Nevada Department of Wildlife creel clerks have seen few fish coming in from the Overton Arm.

* LAKE MOHAVE — Anglers continue to find fair to good fishing out of Cottonwood Cove. Stripers moving into the area seem to have pushed the bluegill out. One angler reportedly found success with a diving lure that resembles a 3-inch bluegill.

Most stripers being caught are small, ranging from 7 to 14 inches, though larger fish reportedly are being taken. Catfish also are being caught. Most fish are being caught in the early morning and late evening.

Fishing has been slow at Willow Beach, though anglers have been catching trout on PowerBait, artificial worms and small spinners or lures. Anglers also have been catching striped bass and catfish.

* LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — Catfish should be stocked into each of five urban ponds sometime this week. The final catfish plant for this year should be completed sometime in October.

For catfish, try night crawlers, stinkbait or chicken livers fished on the bottom. Bluegill will take mealworms fished below a bobber.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Anglers should find improved fishing activity as daytime temperatures drop. Prepared baits, worms, small lures or spinners, and flies should produce bites in the coming weeks.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Traditional trout baits should goad a few rainbows into biting. Fish will become more active as temperatures drop.

* KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Temperatures are cooling off and the fishing is picking up. Nighttime lows are dipping into the mid-40s. Anglers have been reeling in rainbow trout and largemouth bass.

While most success is coming to boat anglers, shore fishermen also have been netting fish from the dams at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs.
