Ex-Palo Verde High School football star Harrison leaning toward UNLV

Former Palo Verde High School football star Jarrell Harrison still hasn’t decided where he will attend college next, saying this afternoon his choice was between UNLV and Missouri but that he was leaning to the Rebels.

Harrison, a Rivals.com three-star prospect at City College of San Francisco, would be a major addition for the Rebels. He probably would start immediately at safety, especially since Harrison (6 feet 2 inches, 210 pounds) would sign Wednesday and go through spring practices.

But on the local radio show "Talkin Sports with RT," Harrison said he needed more time after visiting UNLV last weekend.

"I’ve got a lot of thinking to do because this is my future," he said.

Harrison signed with the Rebels in 2005 as a quarterback but failed to qualify academically. He took care of academics and football in San Francisco and attracted some notable schools. Harrison was offered scholarships by Arizona and North Carolina State, but decided UNLV and Missouri were better options.

He certainly had higher praise for the Rebels than the Tigers.

"I’m leaning (to UNLV) because this is my hometown," Harrison said. "I love it here. My family can come see me play because I’d be down the road. I could have a positive influence on kids because they need somebody to look up, and we don’t have a (professional) sports team to look up to."
