Loyola Marymount runs past Lady Rebels

The UNLV women’s basketball team couldn’t recover from a dismal first half, losing to Loyola Marymount 84-68 Saturday in Los Angeles.

The Lady Rebels (4-3) shot 16 percent in the opening 20 minutes and trailed 33-17 at halftime.

Both teams put up 51 points in the second half.

Shamela Hampton led UNLV with 26 points, including 22 in the second half, and also had six steals. Erica Helms had 13 points, and Jamie Smith had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Alex Cowling led the Lions (7-1) with 26 points, hitting 11 of 12 shots from the field.
