TCU rides first-half run past Lady Rebels

The UNLV women’s basketball team couldn’t recover from a 21-0 first-half run by Texas Christian, losing 75-46 on Tuesday night in a Mountain West Conference game in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Lady Rebels (10-13, 3-7 MWC) tied the score at 9 on two Jamie Smith free throws three minutes into the game and then didn’t score for more than eight minutes.

Emily Carter’s 3-pointer put the Horned Frogs (15-8, 7-3) ahead 30-9, and TCU led 44-25 at halftime.

UNLV, which shot just 34 percent and went 6-for-27 from 3-point range (22.2 percent), got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Shamela Hampton led the Lady Rebels with 16 points.

TK LaFleur had 21 points for TCU, and Helena Sverrisdottir had 16 points and 10 assists. The Horned Frogs shot 48.4 percent overall and hit 10 of 18 3-pointers (55.6 percent).
