Lady Rebels recover, fend off Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The UNLV women’s basketball team squandered an 11-point second-half lead, then rallied in the final minutes to beat Wyoming 71-64 on Saturday.

Erica Helms scored 23 points for the Lady Rebels (8-9, 1-3 Mountain West Conference).

Hillary Carlson scored 20 points and Megan McGuffey added 18 for Wyoming (0-3, 8-8).

UNLV built a 50-39 lead with 12 minutes to play, but McGuffey scored nine points as the Cowgirls went on a 13-0 run for their first lead since late in the first half.

The game was tied at 60 before Latoya Hunt hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Rebels. UNLV never trailed again.

Shamela Hampton scored 11 points for UNLV, and Dominique Harris added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Rebels had a 49-36 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive rebounds.

The Lady Rebels next host Brigham Young on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. game at Cox Pavilion.
