No full house for conquering heroes
January 3, 2009 - 7:57 pm
Saturday’s UNLV-New Mexico game is about to tip off and the conquering heroes won’t have a full house to greet them after the Rebels’ win at No. 18 Louisville on Wednesday.
There are people sitting in the upper reaches of the balcony at the Thomas & Mack but not enough to sell it out. Apparently radio color man Glen Gondrezick’s plea to the fans to pack the ’Mack fell upon deaf ears. Perhaps too many people were tracking their wagers on the Chargers-Colts game.
WINK’S BACK
The big news for those who are in the building (and following along on-line) is that UNLV senior guard Wink Adams will play tonight. His abdominal muscle strain, which caused him to miss the first game of his college career Wednesday at Louisville, has healed enough that he can play.
How much he’ll play will likely depend on how the game is going and how he’s doing. He didn’t start, and word was coach Lon Kruger was looking to play him only about 15. Tre’Von Willis got the start in Adams’ spot.
BYU BUZZ
The Brigham Young-Wake Forest game was getting plenty of eyeballs in the press room prior to the game. The Cougars were looking to maintain their national-best 53-game home-court winning streak at the Marriott Center. But the Demon Deacons overcame some cold shooting in the second half and wound up ending the run, winning 94-87.
Speaking of streaks, UNLV goes for its eighth straight win tonight.
