REBELS WELCOME TWO RECRUITS THIS WEEKEND

With UNLV’s football recruiting almost finished, the Rebels welcome just two recruits this weekend, including a highly rated quarterback who was the first player in this class to commit.

Caleb Herring (6 feet 4 inches, 180 pounds) of Citrus Hill High School in Perris, Calif., is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com. Rivals rates him as the nation’s No. 34 quarterback, and Scout has Herring at No. 64.

Last season, Herring completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,039 yards with 36 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 240 yards and four TDs.

Despite the early commitment, Herring said Oregon and Oregon State have made a late push, but UNLV has nothing to worry about.

"I’m strongly committed," he said. "My mind isn’t changing anytime soon."

The other player visiting is speedy wide receiver Irshad Stolden (5-10, 165) of Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High. He was named first-team all-division after catching 47 passes for 902 yards and seven touchdowns.

Signing day is Feb. 4. UNLV coach Mike Sanford is not allowed under NCAA rules to comment until then.
