‘Amazing Race’ reality TV series ends in Las Vegas

Several MGM Mirage resorts, The Graceland Wedding Chapel and Wayne Newton received star billing during Sunday night’s season finale of the CBS television series, “The Amazing Race.”

In the 15th edition of the Emmy Award-winning series, in which teams of two race are around the world and have to complete various tasks, the final destination was Las Vegas.

Sunday’s night’s episode began in the Czech Republic city of Prague and ended at Newton’s 52-acre Casa de Shenendoah home off Sunset Road.

In between, the teams landed at McCarran International Airport, raced by taxi to The Graceland Wedding Chapel where they met an Elvis Presley impersonator, then drove to the Mandalay Bay. One contestant from each team had to rappel from the roof of Mandalay Bay to a landing area.

From Mandalay Bay, it was off to The Mirage where one contestant from each team had to retrieve a bouquet by bungee jumping onstage “Cirque du Soleil style” inside the theater where “Love” is performed.

After The Mirage, it was off to the Monte Carlo where each team had to count out and stack $1 million in casino chips.

It was then off to the MGM Grand, where they had to find “Mr. Las Vegas” Wayne Newton in one of the hotel’s high-end suites where he told the contestants to travel to his home where the finish line was located.

San Diego residents Meghan Rickey and her boyfriend, Cheyne Whitney, prevailed and were the first to arrive, winning $1 million.

The 21-day journey began with 12 teams of two. Teams we subsequently eliminated during each episode.

Poker players Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle participated in the race, but were eliminated in sixth place.
