MUSIC

Organist Lillian Kollar and soprano Landa Cole will perform music from the 16th century to present day, assisted by Daniel Beck on trumpet, at 7:30 p.m. May 8 at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. Admission is free. A freewill offering will be accepted (454-8484).

The Church at South Las Vegas, 3051 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson, will have a Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring live mariachi music, a salsa-making competition and children’s activities at 7 p.m. today (361-1579).

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will have a Neighborhood Yard and Bake Sale at 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today. Food and snacks will be available (732-2052).

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 6670 W. Cheyenne Ave., will have a parking lot sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. today. Food will be available during the event. Proceeds will benefit the church’s youth and family ministry (645-1777).

The Chung Tai Chan Buddhist Community in Las Vegas will present the lecture “Pure Mind, Pure Land: A New Lifestyle for World Harmony,” with Ven. Jian Hu, abbott of Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Buddha Jewel Monastery in Seattle, at 2 p.m. today in Building B, Room 105 at the College of Southern Nevada campus at 6375 W. Charleston Blvd. A half-day Zen Meditation Retreat with Hu will be offered at 1 p.m. Sunday at TKO Family Martial Arts, 1171 S. Buffalo Drive. Both events are free. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Las Vegas is hosting a free film series Sundays in May in support of the Pride Festival. The first film in the series will be “Outrage.” “Desert Hearts” will be shown on May 9. Screenings will begin at 6 p.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Worship Hall, 3616 Lake Mead Blvd. (737-7780).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
