ARLINGTON — Police have arrested Atlanta Braves outfielder Hector Olivera after a woman accused him of assault at a hotel outside Washington.
Arlington Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said police were called just before 7 a.m. Wednesday to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pentagon City. Savage says a woman with visible bruises reported that Olivera had assaulted her.
Police arrested Olivera. The woman was taken to a hospital.
Savage says Olivera is waiting to appear before a magistrate and has not been formally charged.
Savage says Olivera and the woman are acquainted.
The 31-year-old Olivera joined the Braves last year. He spent the early part of his career in Cuba before defecting. The Braves are in Washington for a series against the Nationals.
A call to the team’s media relations office went unanswered Wednesday.
