County Commission votes to boost county manager’s salary

The Clark County Commission voted Tuesday to boost County Manager Don Burnette’s salary.

Commissioners, during Burnette’s annual performance review, decided to raise his salary by 2 percent, making his pay $264,846.

“The challenge is always what does the CEO of a $6.2 billion company deserve if he has not only met his performance standards, but exceeded them?” Commissioner Larry Brown said.

Commissioners lauded Burnette, who has been county manager since 2011, deciding to also give him a $38,946 bonus.

“We’ve dealt with some difficult situations and I think you’ve handled them with a great deal of composure and professionalism,” Commissioner Steve Sisolak said.

Commissioner Mary Beth Scow praised Burnette’s communications skills, noting that she never felt left out of the loop.

“You are truly just a solid guy,” Commissioner Lawrence Weekly said to Burnette. “I don’t think a lot of people really know or really realize the magnitude of Clark County.”

As county manager, Burnette oversees 38 departments and more than 10,000 employees.
